PRESQUE ISLE, Maine<\/strong>\u2014Melissa St. Pierre, youth services librarian at the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle, visited preschool students at the Wintergreen Arts Center today.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe created our own little library at Wintergreen to help our students experience the joy and care of books,\u201d said Lisa Brewer who co-teaches Wintergreen\u2019s creative preschool, Under the Willow Tree, with Katie Greenlaw.\u00a0 \u201cSo, we invited Melissa St. Pierre over to visit and talk with our students about the public library.\u201d<\/p>\n
During her visit, St. Pierre helped Wintergreen\u2019s preschool students sign up for their very own library cards, talked about our local public library, and read a book about snowmen.<\/p>\n
Excited about her visit to Wintergreen, St. Pierre said, \u201cLibraries provide early literacy development and other learning experiences for all children and their families.\u00a0 They offer a safe space for children to learn, explore and become more confident in their literary development.\u201d<\/p>\n
St. Pierre added, \u201cA child with a library card can learn responsibility as well as develop a feeling of independence as they discover different resources.\u00a0 Plus, libraries are super fun! \u00a0We have lots of enriching programs, games and clubs for all children to participate in and get excited about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Katie Greenlaw, Wintergreen preschool co-teacher, said, \u201cAs we start the New Year, we are focusing on community helpers, people who make our community successful.\u00a0 It\u2019s an important part of early childhood career development and exploration.\u00a0 We are excited to welcome Melissa to our preschool and learn more about libraries.\u201d<\/p>\n
