PRESQUE ISLE, Maine<\/strong>\u2014Wintergreen\nArts Center recently received a $10,000 grant from the Onion Foundation.  The gift supports Wintergreen\u2019s After School\nand Summer Arts Programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Onion Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation\nbased in Auburn, Maine, with a mission to encourage conservation and\nstewardship of the natural environment and to promote music and the arts in the\nstate of Maine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are extremely grateful,\u201d said Dottie Hutchins,\nWintergreen\u2019s executive director.  \u201cThe\ntiming of this grant is so important not only in our efforts to expand our\nchildren\u2019s arts programming, but also to our ability to provide much needed alternative\ntransportation for our afterschool arts students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November, the Wintergreen Arts Center contracted with the\nAroostook Regional Transportation System (ARTS) to provide afterschool\ntransportation to local elementary and middle school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hutchins added, \u201cDue to COVID restrictions, our local school\ndistrict is unable to provide afterschool busing, but with the help of the\nOnion Foundation, all local children once again have access to afterschool\ntransportation and are back on a level playing field to participate in Wintergreen\u2019s\nAfter School Arts Program.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
