Presque Isle, Maine<\/strong>\u2014Members of the Wintergreen Arts Center\u2019s Board of Directors recently met with local business leader Brian Hamel to begin strategic planning for the Presque Isle-based nonprofit organization.\u00a0 Founded in 2006, Wintergreen serves over 5,500 people annually with quality arts programming for children of all ages, family-friendly signature events, and adult programs.\u00a0 The Center is located at 149 State Street.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the years, Wintergreen has successfully navigated the many ups and downs of being a nonprofit art center in a rural community,\u201d said Dottie Hutchins, executive director.\u00a0 \u201cThough amazing community support, generous grant makers, and good old fashioned hard work, the Center has grown to become a mainstay here in Aroostook County.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wintergreen first opened its doors at the Aroostook Centre Mall; the creative vision of Founder Lara Cannon.\u00a0 In 2008, two dedicated supporters purchased the historic Wight Furniture building at 149 State Street and gave Wintergreen an extraordinary 10-year free lease.\u00a0 That lease expires October 31, 2018, changing not only Wintergreen\u2019s ability to meet its future, long-term financial needs, but the possible longevity of its current location as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur board is exploring all options,\u201d said Hutchins.\u00a0 \u201cAnd, we recognized that we needed an experienced facilitator to help us through the process.\u00a0 We are thrilled that Brian Hamel not only stepped up to help, but is donating his time and service to our organization.\u00a0 He is making a huge difference in the future of Wintergreen and the people we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brian Hamel is the managing partner of Thompson-Hamel, LLC, a full-service financial firm with offices in Presque Isle and Bangor.\u00a0 Hamel is also well known as head coach for the Aroostook County Snowdogs Basketball Team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m impressed with the level of passion each board member brings to the organization\u2019s creative mission,\u201d said Hamel.\u00a0 \u201cI think the Center is a unique community asset and I look forward to assisting its leadership in coming up with a plan to keep the Wintergreen Arts Center viable and growing for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
